Sauce on Siren Week 11

This week I took part in a special Wales based addition of Sauce on Siren, as we broadcasted on St Davids Day. I was not originally in this group and was asked to take somebody’s place as presenter which I was happy to do. I agreed because I really liked presenting and wanted to improve my skills in this field.

PRE-PRODUCTION

I feel that we could have been a lot more prepared as a group than we were, I entered the group late and when I went to the first meeting we still didn’t have a clear idea on what we wanted to do our show about. Eventually we were given the idea of St Davids Day, and fortunately our Producer Joe was Welsh so he kept us on track to what was true and what wasn’t. I found that the group were reluctant to do any work preparing for the show, so I created a running order and cues, as well as packages for the show so we didn’t go in with nothing. I made a package explaining what St Davids Day was, and another Package explaining what Ash Wednesday (this was also an event that occurred on the day of our broadcast) was with an interview from one of my friends from school who is heavily involved with the church. Chloe then went over the running order in a finer detail, which really should have been down to the producer of the show and not the presenters.

I wasn’t as nervous for the show as I had been with other shows, and I think this is because I was presenting with Chloe, who I am very comfortable around, and you can definitely see hear this chemistry when listening to the show.

THE SHOW

I feel the show went really well, there was only one noticeable failure where we talk about Tom Jones and his private life. Looking back now we should have never said this on air as it was wildly inappropriate. It would have been nice for the producer to have looked through our notes before we went on air and advised us not to read a certain bit out, but there was no time to do this as we found the facts very close to the show.

I feel one way that we could have improved the show is the cooking packages. I had used these in previous shows and they sounded really good, but the ones in this show in my opinion just needed a little something more such as a backing track to make it a little more interesting. I thought it was really interesting how we played the recipe package and then me and Chloe tried the actual food live on air.

Chloe Abraham was our BA and didn’t mess up at all, or if she did I never noticed. She made sure to cue us in after anything was being played and kept us calm when the show started. I’ve been in a few shows with Chloe and I feel that she has really improved and become a lot more confident when working on live shows. This may be because of her work with Brayford.

Chloe Edwards as a co-presenter was like a dream come true. I haven’t enjoyed presenting as much as I do with her and I think this is because we have such a good chemistry and know what works and what doesn’t between us. I know she was very nervous when coming on air, I tried to keep her calm and I feel that the nerves were unnoticeable.

Joe was a good producer, however I feel he could have done a lot more work to prepare, especially with running orders and other paperwork which was left to me and Chloe Edwards. I was very impressed that he went all out to make both Welsh Cakes and Bara Brith and I feel this worked really well in the show.

Rob was our OB, but was unable to get an interview sorted in time so he became a quiz-master. I think that the quiz was a little hard but fair enough, it might of been interesting to have some audio clips in there.

Jack was our online support and did a great job. He advertised the show beforehand and live-streamed the taste tests on the day.
