Sauce on Siren Week 6

This week I finished my second Sauce on Siren show. This week I took on the role of presenter. The show was done very last minute and if I could go back I would have pushed the producer more to sort the show out. I feel when looking at other shows this one really stands out in terms of content as we created an original song for Siren FM and had a live performance of it on the show. The show was based around Christmas music as it went on air on the 14th December.

PRE-PRODUCTION

I had spoken to Jack Kendrick, a friend of mine who makes his own music to see if he could write a song for our Christmas show and he quickly accepted. He was really excited about the prospect of writing an original song and wanted to see if he could do it in such a short space of time. I also asked Jordan Rodrigues and James Jolly to see if they were interested in helping us out with the music, which they quickly accepted. Apart from this we didn’t have much more content for the show and left the majority of it until the night before. Jordan came in for a practice in Siren FM, where we created all of our paperwork and cues for the next day. This was very nerve wrecking and most of the team wanted to quit as we were facing threats of cancellation, but I wanted to power through because of how enthusiastic Jack was about playing his song on Siren.

The night before the show I was with the Producer Callum in the library editing running orders and cue sheets until 12am so that the show could go live. It would have been so much better if we had this done earlier in the week because the stress that came with this show was unreal.

THE SHOW

Despite how last minute we prepared for the show, it was one of the most enjoyable for me because it was so different compared to all of the other shows we had done. On the day we organised a room for the three musicians and they practised the song together for the first time. We sat in on the practice and it was amazing to hear the song whilst all of the boys were playing it together.

During the show we got the group of boys in for interviews on their progress and what it was like creating a song with people that you hadn’t met before, as well as an interview after they had played the song. I really enjoyed presenting with Jack because he was so confident and I feel I was able to bounce of his confidence during the show.

Jack was an amazing presenter and got on really well with the musicians, giving a professional vibe all the way through the show. You can tell he is very passionate about presenting, and he is very good at what he does.

Callum was our producer, and although he was unorganised to begin, it was when I was in the library with him finalising scripts that you could see his passion for the show to be good. During the show he kept me and Jack on track and informed us on what was happening and kept time checking us and letting us know what we needed to do next.

Our OB was Danielle. She recorded the musicians when they played their song for the first time, and had a short interview with them beforehand. The only thing I would say is that the interview questions were very similar to the ones that we had asked the musicians, there could have been a change in questions either on Danielle’s side or the presenters side.

Aidan was our BA and was amazing at what he did. To my knowledge he didn’t mess up at all and continued to make sure that me and Jack were ok, moreso than the producer.

LIVE STREAM

We decided to livestream the final performance on facebook so that fans of the show and the music could share it on social media, boosting our listeners.
