Sauce On Siren Week 2

This weeks Sauce on Siren programme was based on Food in and around Lincoln. My role in this show was presenter, which although I had never done before, I really enjoyed.

PERSONAL REVIEW

Personally I think that the show went really well, and was much more interesting than the previous show on I-ON Media that I had done. Everyone in the group really got on and jelled together quickly, which made it a lot more fun to make. I really enjoyed the roll of a presenter, although I realised I messed up a little bit at some points, which is bound to happen, I feel the friendly atmosphere between me and my co-presenter made the show a lot more fun to listen to. Because we had so much time to practice in the studio I felt comfortable with my co-presenter and I think this shows on air, if we hadn’t had this time I don’t I would have preformed as well as I did. Personally I would of liked an extra session in the studio or a good straight run-through in Siren, I think Ashley would have definitely benefited from this as would the rest of us as it would of made the show run much smoother.

I think everyone pulled their weight when putting content together for the show, but some members did less work than others. An example of this was Rob who was our online support but failed to post anything until a few hours before the show. As we had no online content before this I took it upon myself to create some content myself, so I created a post on twitter about Tower Bar vs The Swan and did the majority of the online content myself. Although James created some amazing packages it would of been nice to see them and listen to them a couple of days before the live show in case there was something that needed changing.

As presenters, I feel that me and Josh got on really quickly and you can see this when listening to the show. We did well in creating the trail before the week of the show, and worked on our running orders and cue sheets together so that they sounded more natural when we said them. When creating the trail Josh struggled a bit with his stutter, but as he became more comfortable it slowly faded away, I didn’t even notice it during the live show at all.

Ashley did really well as a BA as I knew he was very nervous on the day. He did little when creating content for the show, but he did his job well and did an outstanding job on the day. Grace as a producer was brilliant, she booked out studio times and meeting places. She kept on top of everyone and pushed them to get their work done on time. She organised all our interviews and OB for us as well. Elliot was our OB and went to Walkabouts in Lincoln to interview a manager. His OB went well, he added more to his questions from listening to the managers answers which I think is a really impressive skill that can be very hard to do. As well as this Elliot did a lot during preproduction in making packages and such.

It was very scary at the beginning with the Siren team presenting live as we werent sure when we would go on, so we just had to trust in Grace the producer and wait for her signal. I think I started the show well with the intro, and I felt I gained confidence as the show continued.

I understand that some elements of the show did sound like an advert, as we were promoting certain restaurants such as Walkabout and the Swana and TowerBar, however we were very carful to keep the show balanced. Coming up with the questions me and Josh wanted to add some tougher questions, especially for the McDonalds employee. We also made sure to ask both the Tower Bar interviewee and the Swan interviewee similar questions, so we didn’t look biased as if we were favouring one group rather than the other.

MY FEEDBACK

You had a very nice free flowing style with the other presenter and the audience. You were easy to listen to with an audience focus. You seemed to be interested in the content of the programme which is massively important. Presenting is not just about reading and introducing its about being a friend to the audience, a guide and confident.

With practice, you will become increasingly confident.

I’m really happy with my feedback as at first I didnt know what to think about being a presenter, but I feel the more I practiced the more confident I became. To improve I think I should try not to stick to script too much, I get a bit nervous thinking about just going freestyle without any script, but at the end of the day I think this style of presenting sounds more natural and friendly to the audience. When looking at professionals, especially Joss Moore during our workshop, I found he only used bulletpoints for his script and was quickly able to come up with a professional and charismatic opening, which is what I aspire to be able to do. I think to do this I need to practice without a script, which I am able to do with my show on Brayford Radio, until in time I get confindent enough to bring it into the Siren shows.
